Sami Swilks is an early career screenwriter and director living and working on Gadigal land in Sydney, Australia. She completed a Bachelor of Communications (Media Arts and Production) at UTS in 2016 and has recently completed a Masters of Arts Screen (Screenwriting) at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (2022). She cut her teeth in post-production at Fin Design then Soundfirm Sydney, before gaining extensive on-set and in-house experience with MacGowan Films, Good Oil Films and Paper Moose. Independently, she has directed and produced music videos and shorts with artists including Kirin J Callinan, Dante Knows, and Hayley Mary (The Jezabels).   

She is responsible for providing top tier support in the writers’ room, and high level administrative support across all production departments, having held numerous positions as a notetaker and researcher, and upon completion of her Masters she attended the IPPTAR Institute in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as a screenwriting tutor for international students visiting the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Corporation.
